Nestled in the middle of the mountains for next few weeks.
Getting to our campground (Quiet Oaks Campground) was mostly dirt road under thick groves of trees. It was the perfect place to start on this journey.

We see deer every morning and we're still waiting for the elk to come down off the mountain. We can hear them.
We spend our afternoons reading, hiking and exploring. There's so many wildflowers out here. It's like a wildflower carpet in places and the butterflies just love it. Also tons of animal tracks.

Life hasn't been this simple in a long time.
This is where we get breakfast on the weekend, Road Kill Cafe. It's on the honor system. So you fill out your little sheet of paper, put the rock on it. The cash goes in the box and you take your own change.

We have to bring the bird feeder and any food inside at night so we don't attract bears.

Getting to a town with big stores is a bit of drive so we typically make a day out of it. But we don't have to go into town much.

It's been a quiet week here for the most part but that's going to change the next few weekends.

This weekend there's about 200 ATVs going on a "Cruise for a Cure" and the final stop is here at the campground. The ride ends here and they'll stop at "Road Kill Cafe" for a chicken dinner. All the cooking is done by volunteers and the food is donated by locals in surrounding towns. Proceeds go to Relay for Life.

And then there's a Bluegrass music festival happening in 2 weeks. Smoked Country Jam - think woodstock...
Over 3,000 people will come to the campground for 3 days -- people on bikes, motorcycles, hikers and campers are all coming together to enjoy the music and food. Although the kids told us not to eat the brownies.... We're volunteering at this event and are so excited. I'll be in the kitchen cooking and Pasquale will be riding on an ATV of some sort as security. Dave, runs the festival and has it here on his property. Stay tuned for pictures from that.
Take care and sleep well.
Joyce and Pasquale.
